The latest developments in the Transnistrian case and the efforts of the national authorities to solve the political dispute, based on the principle of sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova, were the main topics of the discussion between Mr Tudor Ulianovschi, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration and the diplomatic corps accredited in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, politicians, businessmen, journalists and representatives of civil society in England.

Presenting the latest developments in the Transnistrian conflict settlement process, Minister Tudor Ulianovschi mentioned that during the last meetings in the "5 + 2" format in Berlin, Vienna and Rome, significant progress has been made in promoting confidence-building measures between the two sides. “I will invoke in this respect the six protocol decisions concerning the opening of the bridge over the Dniester, from Gura Bacului to Baciuc, ensuring the good functioning of schools in Transnistria with Latin script teaching, the apostille of Tiraspol diplomas, the restoration of the telephone link between the two banks of the Dniester, the free access of the farmers from Dubasari district to their agricultural lands following the Tiraspol-Ribnita route, the admission of cars from the Transnistrian region to the international road traffic, which eventually enabled us to take a step forward in that direction”, the head of Moldovan diplomacy said.

In this context, Minister Tudor Ulianovschi expressed his hope that this year's OSCE Chairmanship will contribute effectively to the development of this positive development, including ensuring the free movement of persons, goods and services between the two banks of the Dniester. "At the same time, I have to admit that the Republic of Moldova remains extremely vulnerable in case of an unprecedented hybrid war in the region, given my country's dependence on Russia's energy resources and trade with that country. We hope that in a near future, we will be able to diversify our energy sources and assert ourselves in the new markets, particularly in the European market, "said Tudor Ulianovschi.

Referring to the Draft Resolution on the withdrawal of foreign troops from the territory of the Republic of Moldova, included on the agenda of the UN General Assembly on 22 June 2018, the Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasized that it is a project based on the commitments set out by the Russian Federation and on the need to withdraw the Operational Group of the Russian Troops, according to the international law principles and the UN Charter, noting that the Republic of Moldova is expecting the support of the UN member states, based on the same principles of international law and the UN Charter - showing solidarity with Moldova's approach. At the same time, it was discussed the need to replace the current peacekeeping military mission with a multinational civil peacekeeping mission.

During the dialogue, the participants addressed several questions related to both the Transnistrian issue and the impact of the Ukrainian situation on regional and European security, the settlement of the dispute, etc. Some of the questions referred to the political situation in the Republic of Moldova, the prospects for the European direction of the country, and the parliamentary elections this year.
