EUROBEAT Moldova opens with Moldovan Embassy representative arriving in Edinburgh!

Beckman Universe and the Pleasance are proud to announce that Oxana Borta, Counsellor to Embassy of the Republic of Moldova to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, will be attending the opening night of EUROBEAT Moldova. The Ambassador’s flag from the Embassy has been gifted to the production for unique photo opportunities before the show.

Iulian Fruntasu, the Ambassador of Moldova, said: “In 2016, Moldova is celebrating its 25th anniversary of independence and we are delighted to support the truly international phenomenon that is The Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Moldova is a country that embraces the arts fully and, with its long cultural heritage, we are continually looking out and welcoming the international community to our country. We wish Eurobeat Moldova all the best and look forward to dancing in the aisles along with the audience!”

EUROBEAT Moldova is a hilarious and sequin-soaked spoof of the international phenomenon Eurovision Song Contest taking over the Pleasance’s biggest stage, The Grand, from 3 until 29 August. This glamorous music contest is co-hosted by Rula Lenska, legendary iconic English actress, and Lee Latchford-Evans of 90s pop band Steps who has just released a single ‘My People Know How to Party’ to promote the show.

This new EUROBEAT is hosted by Moldova - a country determined to astonish and delight audiences at every turn under the guidance of hosts Katya Kokov (a glamorous former KGB spy turned television presenter) and her side-kick Nikolae Nikovsky (winner of Moldova’s Got Talent three years running) who are sure to make this a night to remember - no matter what it takes…

As well as Moldova, other countries to compete in this brand new UK production of Eurobeat include The UK, Spain, Sweden, Poland, Ireland, The Netherlands, Ukraine, Morocco, Norway and, for the first time, The Vatican!

Each evening filled with original music by Craig Christie and Andrew Paterson, the audience participate in live text voting so a different act and country could win every night! Proceeds from the live vote will go to Waverley Care (Scotland’s HIV and Hepatitis C charity, which is celebrating the 25th anniversary of a fundraising partnership with Pleasance) and Dickens Legacy (launched by Beckman Unicorn and Lucinda Dickens Hawksley to support Arts access and new writing).
